Sandré Swanson for the past thirty years has been Chief of Staff and senior policy adviser to Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ronald V. Dellums. Mr. Swanson has filed with the Secretary of State’s office his intended candidacy for the California State Assembly 16th district. This month (on Saturday, December 18, 2004) the Swanson for Assembly campaign held a Special Holiday Dinner Party to raise seed money for Mr. Swanson’s anticipated campaign for the Assembly in 2006. The event was held at the home of Sandré and Anita Swanson, attended by seventy-five guest and raised fiftythousand dollars ($50,000) in checks and pledges for the campaign. Mr. Swanson is scheduled to formally announce his candidacy this coming February. He has registered his intended candidacy with the Secretary of State’s office which allows his committee to start raising contributions this year. Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson is the campaign Chairman and was the master of ceremony for the evening. Supervisor Carson introduced the Mayor of Alameda, Beverly Johnson who welcomed the guest to the event and said “Sandré during his 30 years of service to Alameda and this district has always been there for us, supporting our many projects and requests. That’s why I am supporting him for the Assembly”. Supervisor Carson then introduced Congresswoman Barbara Lee who offered a special toast to Sandré offering her endorsement of his candidacy for her former seat in the Assembly. Congresswoman Lee said “Sandré has worked diligently as Chief of Staff, serving me and this district well. He has always gotten the job done for our constituents and I believe he will win this seat in the State Assembly”. Supervisor Carson introduced Sandré by saying that he has worked with and known Sandré all of his political life and that he was supporting this campaign because, “Sandré has worked for the issues important to this district, like more jobs, better housing, economic development and health care”. In response to these comments and the event Sandré Swanson thanked Congresswoman Lee, Mayor Johnson and Supervisor Carson for their early support of his campaign. He told the energized guest, “I am excited about this campaign and the continued opportunity of public service following my retirement as Congresswoman Lee’s Chief of Staff this year. Public service is my passion and for me there is no more joy then helping others. What happens to our children their education and safety is important to me and will be an important part of this campaign. Job growth and economic development have always been among my highest priorities. My mission is to get state government to make meaningful commitments to improving the quality of life for our entire community. I am looking forward to this campaign, walking the neighborhoods of this district and talking with people about all the issues that are important to them. Our state government is in budget crisis and if our local priorities are going to be part of the legislative agenda in our state capitol we must do the hard work to guarantee it”. Sandré Swanson has provided leadership on numerous boards and Commissions: former Chairman of the Alameda County retirement board, Chairman of Oakland’s Civil Service Commission, Vice-Chairman of the Alameda and Oakland Base Reuse Authorities, Chairman of the EBCRC small business loan fund and Chairman of the City of Alameda Golf Commission. Proven leadership in building successful communities.
