OakPAC Endorses Sandré Swanson
for the 16th Assembly District
OakPAC, the largest political action committee in Oakland representing the business community, voted unanimously to endorse Sandré Swanson in the 16th District Assembly race. The 16th Assembly District is currently represented by Assemblywoman Wilma Chan, who is termed out in 2006.
The unanimous vote expresses OakPAC’s confidence that Sandré Swanson is the candidate that can best represent Oakland’s interests in the state legislature. During his 30 years of public service on the state and federal level, Mr. Swanson has demonstrated a strong commitment to Oakland by securing millions of dollars in federal and state funding and has been effective in developing and implementing programs to assist small businesses. Swanson impressed OakPAC with his understanding of the issues facing Oakland, particularly housing, economic development, education and transportation.
OakPAC interviewed four candidates who have expressed interest in replacing Wilma Chan in 2006. In addition to Swanson, candidates who were considered for an endorsement were Oakland City Attorney John Russo, attorney Clinton Killian and Ronnie Caplane, member of the Piedmont School Board.
OakPAC recently was active in electing Pat Kernighan to the Oakland City Council during the May 17th special election to replace Danny Wan.
