Sandré Swanson, candidate for California’s 16th assembly district, announced his support for Assemblywoman Loni Hancock’s Clean Money campaign at her town hall meeting in Oakland today.
Mr. Swanson stated “It is essential that we support Election Reform that promotes democracy. Campaigns should always be about the government’s priorities in meeting the needs of the people, not in meeting the needs of special interest money.”
“Real campaign finance reform is needed, and I join Assemblywoman Hancock in her courageous effort to push the California Assembly toward responsible campaign finance reform,” Mr. Swanson added.
Assemblywoman Hancock presented her California Clean Money and Fair Election Act of 2006 today in Oakland’s city council chambers. She discussed the need to overhaul California’s elections, and additional ways of eliminating the “corrupting influence of special interest money”.
Mr. Swanson is the former Chief of Staff and District Director for Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ronald V. Dellums. He is a candidate in the Democratic primary for the 16th district, which includes Alameda, Oakland, and Piedmont.
