California Nurses Endorse Swanson for Assembly
The 65,000-member California Nurses Association endorsed Sandré Swanson for the 16th Assembly District in the Democratic Party primary, the Swanson campaign announced today.
Working as Chief of Staff and senior policy adviser to Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ron Dellums for the last 30 years, Swanson has been a steadfast advocate of universal health care – and has pledged to make accessible health care a top priority in the Assembly.
“We conducted extensive interviews with all three Democrats in the 16th Assembly District and Sandré Swanson stood head and shoulders above the field,” said CNA President Deborah Burger. “He has a strong track record of standing up for quality, affordable health care for all. And he has the experience and ability to become one of the outstanding leaders in the state legislature.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the most powerful group of nurses in California,” Swanson declared. “I look forward to working with the nurses to help provide quality health care for all Californians.”
“There are seven million Californians with no health insurance today – and there are millions more who are underinsured,” Swanson continued. “If elected to the Assembly, I plan to take that problem head-on.”
Swanson has won the support of the Alameda County Central Labor Council; the Oakland Chamber of Commerce PAC (OakPAC); and the California League of Conservation Voters.
He has also earned the support of Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ron Dellums; Assemblywoman Loni Hancock; State Senator Don Perata; Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson; and the majority of city council members in both Oakland and Alameda.
