SEIU, AFSCME Endorse Swanson for Assembly

Continuing to expand his impressive list of endorsements, Sandré Swanson today announced the official support of two of California’s largest labor organizations, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME).

With over 500,000 members, SEIU is the largest union in state and local government, health care, social services, building services and horse racing. With 135,000 members, AFSCME represents public employees in state and local government.

“Having worked for the federal government for 30 years, I know personally the value our public employees provide to our state every day,” said Swanson. “I’m very proud to announce the endorsements of these important labor organizations,” Swanson concluded.

Swanson worked as Chief of Staff and senior policy adviser to Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ron Dellums for the last 30 years. He is a candidate for office in California’s 16th Assembly District.

Swanson has won the support of the Alameda County Central Labor Council; the California Nurses Association; the Oakland Chamber of Commerce PAC (OakPAC); and the California League of Conservation Voters.

He has also earned the support of Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ron Dellums; Assemblywoman Loni Hancock; State Senator Don Perata; Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson; and the majority of city council members in both Oakland and Alameda.
