Major Education Groups Endorse Swanson for Assembly
The California Teachers Association (CTA), the Oakland Education Association (OEA) and the California Federation of Teachers (CFT) – have endorsed Sandré Swanson for Assembly, the Swanson campaign announced today.
Working as Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Barbara Lee and District Director and Senior Policy Advisor to Congressman Ron Dellums for the last 30 years, Swanson has been a strong advocate for children and schools – and has pledged to make school funding his top priority in the Assembly.
Swanson said, “As a member of the Assembly, I will work to restore all Proposition 98 funding for schools, and for a State budget that makes California’s children a real priority. I passionately support full service schools, libraries, and preschools, with decisions made locally by parents, teachers, and students. I strongly believe that keeping our promise to our children will help us build safe, strong communities, and create sustainable jobs.
“I am honored to have the support of the people who work in the classroom every day. Teachers work tirelessly to educate the next generation of Californians, helping them reach their full potential. That is why I believe teachers in this district deserve a fair and timely contract process, offering fair wage, retirement, and health care considerations,” Swanson stated.
“I look forward to working with the teachers to re-establish children and schools as the number one priority of our state,” Swanson added.
Swanson has already won the endorsement of the California Faculty Association (CFA), and the Faculty Association of California Community Colleges. (FACCC) Beyond education, the California Labor Federation; the Oakland Chamber of Commerce PAC (OakPAC); the Sierra Club and the California League of Conservation Voters are among the many groups that have endorsed his campaign.
He has also earned the support of Congresswoman Barbara Lee and Congressman Ron Dellums; Assemblywoman Loni Hancock; State Senator Don Perata; Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson; and the majority of city council members in both Oakland and Alameda.
